Contractors by there very nature
are expected to be able to estimate building costs. When a customer
contacts you they want your expertise. They also need an exact estimate
on their job so they have the ability to compare your offers, abilities
and costs between you and your local competitors. They will want a
complete break down of the work you will be doing for the price you have
quoted. Due to the latest technologies you can now purchase software for
your computer or laptop that will allow you to estimate building costs.
Most software programs are easy to learn and relatively inexpensive,
depending on your contracting needs. To accurately estimate building costs you must factor in a lot of different variables such as, the complexity of the design, the shape and size of the area, local impact fees, the expertise need to complete the work, the materials needed, and permit fees, to name a few. These variables will greatly impact your pricing of the customers job. Making sure your estimate is accurate will determine just how profitable the project will be for you. Your proposal to the customer should show the details of your pricing including labor, material and any other pertinent information you used to estimate building costs for the project. Make sure you make the customer feels comfortable with you, have your
proposal neatly printed out with your costs clearly explained. Using a
program that will estimate building costs quickly and accurately saves
you time which in turn makes you money. |
