The Construction Estimating Form plays a very important role during the
estimating phase of a project. An estimating form helps you keep a
handle on of all the information that is needed for estimation such as,
unit cost, Order of Magnitude Estimates, Square Foot and Cubic Foot
Estimates, Assemblies Systems Estimate, Unit Price Estimate. Aside from
the estimating form, other important forms exist which are significantly
utilized by all construction companies. These are construction bid forms
and construction proposal forms. After you have finished your takeoff
and assembled your bid, you will fill out the bid form. The bid forms
are the forms that you fax out to General Contractors during the bidding
process. More often than not, you will not contract with your proposal.
Instead, the general contractor will usually have his own contract and
will ask you to sign it (remember, you still have to use a proposal form
to put in your bid).
A great number of contractors have Contractor Estimating Forms and processes with a lot of variety that fits their own needs. Standards for estimation practices do exist and were compiled by the American Society of Profession Estimators (ASPE) and American Association of Cost Engineers (AACE). Contractor Estimating Form, worksheets, order of procedures and mode of applying costs are all able to be designed and adjusted by the individual firm in order to meet its needs.
